Pedestrian suffers serious injuries in Davenport crash

A pedestrian was transported from a crash early Wednesday after a crash shortly after 7:30 a.m. in Davenport.

According to a news release, Davenport Police, Fire, and Medic EMS responded to the intersection of Rockingham Road and South Concord Street in reference to a crash involving a pedestrian.

Initial investigation indicates that a vehicle was headed south on South Concord Street and, while making a left turn onto Rockingham Road, struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk.

The pedestrian, a 43-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

The Davenport Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the incident. More information will be released as it becomes available, the release says.

Our Quad Cities News spoke with a local business located directly on Rockingham Road, just feet away from the crash site.

“We got hit by a semi last year,” said Annette Oberlander, a Sharon’s Styling Studio employee. “The semi ended up in the house next door.”

Sharon’s Studio has been around for over 50 years. Annette Oberlander told Our Quad Cities News that her and her fellow employees have seen countless close calls on Rockingham Road, and multiple accidents.

“There has been quite a large amount of incidents out front here in particular through the years,” Oberlander said.

Oberlander says she may have known the person who was hit by a vehicle Wednesday morning.

“It’s very difficult to describe how you feel when you find out one of your own, damaged has been inflicted on them,” Oberlander said. ” I believe it’s hard on everybody down here. Everybody pretty much knows everybody, most people do. It’s a small community almost like a small town.”

Oberlander says driving conditions have been declining over the years, especially with cars not obeying the speed limit.

“Early in the morning, when there is not as much traffic out, it does have a tendency to have people driving too quickly down here,” Oberlander said. “Whatever happened today, which I don’t know what happened precisely, could have been prevented by a driver, I’m sure.”
